CBC Happenings!! CBC December 18, 2008

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

Check for weather related CBC cancellations...

In the event of weather related cancellations for CBC services and events, we will put announcements on the CBC website (www.calvarybiblechurch.net), as well the Christian radio station "Sound of Life" 89.3 FM, and WHUD 100.7 FM. The radio station websites will list our announcements as well.

Checking Your List...

Except for a few exceptions (you really well-prepared people out there), most us us have plenty of things still on our "to do" list before Christmas. In the midst of all the busyness, I'd like to suggest a few things that may not be on your list, but should not be overlooked. They are listed here in no particular order.

1) Be loving to your spouse

2) Be patient with fellow shoppers

3) Be honest with God

4) Share the good news with someone who is not a believer

5) Embrace the joy of the Lord through surrender and thanksgiving

6) Help someone in need

7) Read your Bible

8) Exercise faith in place of fear

May God help us to honor Him as we celebrate His great Gift this Christmas. And, make sure you are checking the right list.

Love in Christ,
Pastor Dan

Those of you who have the white envelope boxes can use your designated envelope, otherwise write "Christmas Offering" on one of the blue envelopes located in the pocket on the back of the chairs in the sanctuary.

Christmas Caroling at Rockefeller Center report...
Last Saturday afternoon 24 people piled in two vans and left from the church for the annual ministry trip to Rockefeller Center. Once downtown, the group split up to find supper, and then met at the tree around 7:00 pm. We were joined there by almost 20 more CBC'ers who traveled down on their own. As the singing began the size of the group swelled as passers-by stopped to sing along. At one point the singing was stopped and the "choir members" each held up letters to spell out the words "His Name Emmanuel God with Us". For several long seconds all foot traffic was halted on that side of the tree as the crowd was parted "Red Sea-esque" so that a picture could be taken. After an hour of singing Christmas carols and handing out over 500 Christmas tracts, the choir disbanded for another year. We pray that the Word of God shared that night will go to many parts of the world as well as throughout tri-state area. Thank you to brother Jose V. for organizing another terrific event for the CBC body.

Prayer...
Pray for the college students finishing papers, projects, taking finals, and traveling home. Pray for God's strength to finish strong, both academically and spiritually.
Pray for Charles Anderson as he continues to recover from illness, he came home from the hospital on Wednesday.

Congratulations...
To Chuck Beel Jr. graduating from Pace University.

Prayer Chain for 2009...
If you would like to be on the prayer chain (receive and pass on emergency prayer requests) please sign the list in the back of the auditorium or contact Ariane Rudolf (962-9742). Even if you were on past lists, you must sign up to be on the new list for 2009.

Want help in understanding your Bible?
Here's a great Christmas gift Idea for those seeking to have a better understanding of the Bible. If you do not have good Bible commentary (the notes of others who have studied the Bible) in your home, this is a tool I would recommend: The Bible Knowledge Commentary (2 volumes- OT and NT) edited by Walvoord and Zuck. $40. Go to christianbook.com.
